The Zuidas is situated at the southwest side of Amsterdam, between the “Oud-Zuid” (old South) area, which was designed by Berlage in 1930’s and the “Buitenveldert” area, a post-war developed area which consist of mainly residential areas. The Zuidas is located close to the historical centre of Amsterdam with its abundance of cultural, leisure and retail facilities, but is also surrounded by a lot of greenery, parks and water. The Zuidas area can be divided in an East zone, a central zone and a West zone. The parking facility Mahler is located in the central zone, the most dynamic and vibrant area out of the three.
The Zuidas lies on both sides of the A10 motorway ring road in the southern part of Amsterdam (hence the name), and has been in full development since the end of the 1990s. The district is connected with the A2 highway towards Utrecht on the east side and on the west side connected to the A4 highway to Schiphol Airport (10 min), The Hague and Rotterdam. There are three public cores connecting the parking facility to the public access lobbies along the pedestrian areas at the Claude Debussylaan and Gustav Mahlerlaan on street level.
Zuidas is a high-end international knowledge and business centre. It is home to a large number of businesses offering financial, legal and business services. The mix of functions is the highest in the central zone of the Zuidas making it a very attractive place to work and to live in. There are over 30,000 people working in the Zuidas area, accounting for almost 7% of all jobs in Amsterdam. More than 700 companies, many of them leading names (Google, AkzoNobel, ABN AMRO, The Vrije Universiteit, VU Medical Center and in 2019- the European Medicines Agency), are established on the Zuidas. Over 60% of these companies are internationally oriented and/or have an international background. The majority of the companies on the Zuidas is active in the financial services sector and the legal industry. Furthermore the Amsterdam Law Court is located on the Zuidas, which has attracted top law firms.
Living The Zuidas is located between two residential area’s: “Oud- Zuid” and “Buitenveldert”. With the development of offices on the Zuidas area a lot of functions in the area emerged which has led to several housing developments in the past and in the near future. The Zuidas provides an excellent residential environment with nearly 600 housing units already been built. The Zuidas area will soon be Amsterdam’s second most prominent housing location with between 8,000 and 9,000 homes by 2040. Amenities The Zuidas has developed into an area with a lot of amenities and facilities. There are plenty of restaurants, bars, cafes and lunchrooms located in the central zone. There is a range of diverse shopping facilities most of them located around the railway station ‘Amsterdam Zuid’. From the central zone the shopping mall ‘Gelderlandplein’ and to the famous shopping area of the Beethovenstraat are at close distance. The easy accessibility and open spaces makes the Zuidas an excellent location for events. Also several educational institutions can be found on the Zuidas with the reputable University of Amsterdam located in the central zone. In the Western zone is the VU University Medical Center located which has attracted several healthcare facilities in and around the central zone. With the permanent Amsterdam Expo located above the parking facility and the Amsterdam RAI conference and exhibition centre in the Eastern zone, the Zuidas is the perfect place to stay. Several hotels including the Citizen M, Crowne Plaza Hotel, Holiday Inn, Novotel and Qbic Hotel are located in and around the Zuidas area.
